It feels fitting that my very first blog post is about my oldest daughter.
When I created Inspired Photos, I chose that name because I’ve always been drawn to the stories behind the people I photograph. The moments, the growth, the resilience—those are the things that inspire me. And my daughter is one of the main people who inspire me.
Looking at this photo, it’s easy to see confidence. She’s standing tall in a field of wildflowers beneath a bright blue sky, completely comfortable in who she is. But when I asked her where that confidence comes from, her answer surprised me.
She told me that homeschooling gave her a strong foundation of independence. From a young age, she learned to think for herself and wasn’t overly concerned with fitting in. But she also said that she wasn’t always like that - she had insecurities that came with growing up.
Like so many girls, there was a time when she let negative thoughts take lead and she became quieter. She wondered if her voice mattered and started believing people weren’t really interested in what she had to say. Instead of speaking up, she held back.
Then one simple conversation with her dad shifted something in her heart.
He told her that speaking negatively to herself wasn’t helping anything. Those weren’t long or eloquent words, but they stayed with her. She began making a conscious choice to stop dismissing compliments and to accept them instead. Little by little, the way she spoke to herself began to change.
The rest, she says, came with time. As she grew, her confidence grew with her.
I love that her story isn’t about never feeling insecure. It’s about learning not to let insecurity have the final say.
She reminds me that confidence isn’t about being the loudest person in the room or pretending you’ve never struggled. It’s about learning to believe the good things about yourself, even after you’ve doubted them.
As her mom, my heart is full today after she shared her personal thoughts with me.
That’s the kind of beauty I hope to capture through my photography—not just what someone looks like, but a glimpse of who they are and the story that brought them there.
